Fujifilm launches new 35mm f/2 lens and 1.4x teleconverter

Fujifilm has announced a new weatherproof 35mm lens for its X-series mirrorless cameras. In addition, a teleconverter is on the way, which can extend the range of the 50-140mm f/2.8 lens by 1.4x.

The new Fujinon XF35mm f/2 R WR is a cheaper and more compact alternative to the 35mm f/1.4 lens that Fujifilm has had in its range for some time. The new model is also equipped with seals against dust and moisture. The standard lens contains nine lens elements in six groups and features two aspherical elements. You can focus from 35cm and the diaphragm has nine blades. The lens weighs 170g, has a 43mm filter thread and will be released in November in black and silver for a suggested retail price of 399 euros.

Fujifilm is also announcing a 1.4x teleconverter, which can be used with the XF50-140mm f/2.8 lens. The teleconverter extends the focal length 1.4x, with one stop of light loss. This results in a range of 70-196 mm and an aperture of f/4. The teleconverter contains seven lens elements in three groups, according to Fujifilm ensures that the optical quality of the original lens is preserved. To use the converter, a firmware update is required for the 50-140mm lens. The necessary update can be downloaded from Fujilm from October 29. From November, the teleconverter is for sale for a suggested retail price of 449 euros.
