Fujifilm has presented the X-A5, a new compact system camera with the style features of a rangefinder camera. The entry-level model with 24.3-megapixel sensor follows the X-A3. Compared to the X-A3, phase detection autofocus has been added and the light sensitivity has been increased.

The 24-megapixel sensor in the X-A5 is in the aps-c format and has a sensitivity of 200 to 12800 iso, which can be digitally expanded to 100 to 51200. The iso range of the X-A3 was stuck at 200 to 6400. Furthermore, the new camera has phase-detection autofocus, while the X-A3 works with contrast-detection autofocus. The X-A5 can use 91 points in autofocus in single autofocus mode; with his predecessor there were 49.

As with the X-A3, the 3″ touchscreen can be tilted 180 degrees and Fujifilm presents the device as a camera with which you can easily take selfies. The X-A5 has no EVF, is equipped with WiFi and can not only filming in full HD resolution, but also in 4k resolution, but the latter is done with a low frame rate of 15 frames per second, in full HD resolution 60 fps is achieved.

The models in the XA series do not have an X-Trans sensor, but a cmos with a regular Bayer design. Fujifilm uses the special X-Trans format in its higher-level mirrorless cameras in the XT and XE series. However, the film simulation modes are available, with which photos can be provided with a filter that mimics the colors of analog Fujifilm film rolls.

Fujifilm bundles the X-A5 with a new XC15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens. According to the manufacturer, this is the first electrically powered zoom lens for the X-mount. In combination with the manufacturer’s aps-c mirrorless cameras, the 136-gram lens in wide-angle mode provides an angle of view comparable to that of 23mm lenses on full-frame cameras. Together with this objective, the camera weighs 496g.

A euro price is not yet known, but in the US the device will cost $ 599, including the new 15-45 mm lens. Converted and including VAT, that is about 583 euros. The 15-45 mm lens will cost 299 dollars as a single copy, converted and with VAT that is about 290 euros.
