Froyo disappears from Android stats and Marshmallow share approaches a third
In January, the Google overview of the Android versions in use no longer shows a mention of the Froyo version of the mobile operating system, which came out in 2010. The share of devices with Marshmallow rises to almost a third.
Because the overview Froyo, or version 2.2, no longer shows, the conclusion can be drawn that this version occurs on less than 0.1 percent of all Android devices. This makes version 2.3, Gingerbread, now the Android variant with the smallest representation, at only 1 percent. Ice Cream Sandwich is close to that with a share of 1.1 percent.
Since March of last year, Android 5.x Lollipop is still the largest variant with a share of 33.4 percent. This shows a small decrease compared to the percentage of 35.4 percent, which the version still had in June of last year. KitKat has also lost a sloppy ten percentage points compared to that position. This decrease has benefited the representation of Marshmallow released in October 2015, which currently stands at 29.6 percent.
The overview shows the statistics of Nougat since November, with which Google came in August. This variant is divided into versions 7.0 and 7.1, which together account for a percentage of 0.7 percent. Devices that now have this version include the Nexus and Pixel devices from Google, the OnePlus 3 and 3T, and the HTC 10. Samsung previously announced that it aims to make its Galaxy S7 devices of the most recent version this month. Android version to be provided.
