Frontiers Expansion For No Man’s Sky Lets Players Run Space Colonies
Hello Games will release its free Frontiers expansion for No Man’s Sky on Wednesday. This expansion allows players to discover and manage space settlements, among other things. The Frontiers update also adds more base building components.
According to developer Hello Games, players can encounter such settlements all over the No Man’s Sky universe. Settlements are procedurally generated with unique buildings, layouts, color schemes, and decorations. Settlements will initially be ‘small and modest’, but can eventually be expanded into full-fledged villages, the studio said.
Players can become the overseer of a settlement by earning the respect of the inhabitants. This makes the player responsible for ‘all aspects’ of life within such a colony. Users can customize the name of the settlement, choose what buildings to place, organize festivals, resolve fights, fend off sentinel attacks, and more.
The base building function has also been overhauled, including a new interface and an improved menu. This should make selecting parts for a base faster and easier. In addition, the developer adds more than 250 new parts, which users can equip their base with.
Hello Games also talks about improved visual effects, for example when destroying terrain. Colored nebulas can now be seen in space. Furthermore, the number of save slots will be expanded from five to 15, expedition rewards will now be synced via the cloud and the Steam version of No Man’s Sky will receive trading cards and badges. The Frontiers update will be available to download for free for No Man’s Sky players, across all platforms, starting Wednesday.
