Frontier Developments is working on an RTS game based on Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Frontier Developments, the makers of Elite Dangerous, Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo, is working on an RTS game based on the tabletop fantasy minitatures game Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The game is to be released between April 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.
The time frame is based on Frontier Developments’ fiscal year. The game should be released sometime in that year. There are no further details, as, as the release date suggests, the announcement is in a message to shareholders.
Frontier has secured the rights to release the game on PC and consoles, but having the rights is different from actually having the plan. The platforms are therefore not yet known, but since an rts is best suited for computers, it can be assumed that Windows will be provided.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar is the successor of the well-known Warhammer. That came out in 1983 and the tenth and last edition came in 2010. Successor Age of Sigmar came out in 2015 and is now in its second edition. The game consists of four super-factions: Order, Chaos, Death and Destruction. Warhammer races such as humans, dwarves, Skaven and Orruks are again in multiple factions within the super-factions.
