From now on you can change the public profile of Google Maps directly from the app

Users of Google Maps for Android can now adjust their public profile from within the app. Until now, the app only provided access to the Local Guide feature’s points count if users had signed up for it.

The new My Profile tab gives users more control over the information others see about personal contributions to Google Maps. My profile, which can be found under the menu button of the app, makes it possible, among other things, to edit the profile name and photo and to add a short biography. The novelty was first spotted by AndroidPolice.

The feature provides an overview of all previous contributions to Maps at the touch of a button and also gives access to more advanced Profile settings. At the very bottom is a function to show or hide all contributions in your profile. Right below that is a switch that allows the user to indicate whether or not he wants to share his profile with the companies he follows.

Google is automatically adding the new My Profile tab these days via a server side app update. The feature appears to be rolling out for Android first; the tab is not yet visible on the editors’ iOS devices.
