From now on, you can also log in to the DigiD app on phones without Google’s QR scanner
It is now possible to log in to DigiD with a QR code without needing Google’s QR code scanner. This means that Fairphone users, among others, can now use this login method, reports DigiD manager Logius.
Users of an Android phone without the Google platform can now enter a pairing code and then scan a QR code via the app to log in to DigiD. Logius reports this, the government organization that manages the DigiD service. Previously, the app would crash when users tried to scan a QR code on an Android phone without the Google platform and the tech giant’s QR scanner.
Although the vast majority of Android phones use Google, there are also phones that offer a Google-less alternative, such as Fairphone and Murena. The DigiD app is only officially available in the Google Play and Apple App Store, so users cannot completely ignore Google.
