French make smartphone case to print photos
Two Frenchmen have made a smartphone case that allows users to print photos taken with their device. They will show the case at CES electronics fair in January and then post the project on Kickstarter.
According to the makers, the case, which has been given the name Prynt, is suitable for phones with a screen between 4″ and 5″. The case allows users to print thirty photos per battery charge. This makes the operation somewhat similar to that of an old Polaroid camera. Printing takes about thirty seconds, the makers say to Techcrunch.
Photos must be taken with the dedicated Prynt app. In addition, the app not only takes a photo, but also records the moments around the moment the photo is taken. A video of this can be viewed by opening the camera mode in the app and holding the printed photo in front of the camera. The videos are uploaded to Prynt’s servers, and can only be viewed with the printed photo. The makers of the app want to ensure that this is only possible with the original, so not with printed copies.
The French makers, who started the project in January, will show the finished version in January at the CES electronics fair in Las Vegas and then put the project on Kickstarter. They ask 99 dollars, converted about 80 euros, for the case. You can order additional ink via the app.
