French company releases partly autonomous quadcopter with Ubuntu
Uavia, a company from France, has developed a quadcopter that can function largely without human intervention. The aircraft is not fully autonomous, but can fly and land without direct physical human intervention.
The company showed the quadcopter at the TechCrunch Disrupt meeting in London. The quadcopter from Uavia uses the Snappy Ubuntu Core. The first versions of the Uavia aircraft are intended for inspection, supervision and overview of agricultural activities.
Uavia says on its site that the quadcopter can function without human intervention. Operation is via a normal browser, where the device itself receives the commands via 3g and 4g connections. In order to obtain the necessary energy, the quadcopter returns to the charging station and charges itself there.
