Framework in OS X 10.11.4 hint at name change to macOS
A hidden framework in OS X 10.11.4 seems to indicate that Apple is toying with the idea of renaming the operating system macOS. This would bring the name in line with iOS, watchOS and tvOS, the names of his other operating systems.
Brazilian developer Guilherme Rambo tweeted a picture of the found file, after which the Brazilian MacMagazin confirmed that the name is indeed in the filename. The framework, which appears to be intended for flight tracking but is not currently in OS X, can be found as /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/FlightUtilities.framework.
With a name change to macOS, Apple would align the naming of its operating system for desktops with other names. In addition, it resembles the classic name of its operating system: Mac OS.
The OS X maker itself has not yet commented on a possible name change. The most logical time to announce that would be WWDC’s own developer conference, which will take place in June.
Update, Thursday: Tweaker CRXDelSol reports that FlightViewController is indeed active in the current version of OS X.
