Fractal Design Introduces Kelvin Water Coolers
The Swedish Fractal Design has announced its latest series of water coolers during Computex. The Kelvin series is available in three sizes and can be expanded with additional heat sinks or an additional radiator.
The Kelvin series was developed in collaboration with Alphacool, which has extensive experience in the field of water cooling. Although the Kelvin coolers are sold as an all-in-one system, they are expandable: users can add an extra CPU or GPU cooler to the circuit, or add an extra radiator for more cooling capacity. The tubes are standard 1/4″ versions and the liquid can also be easily topped up.
The Kelvin series is available in three versions, with two or three fans supplied. The smallest is the fat T12, which has an extra thick radiator for two 120mm fans in push-pull configuration. The S24 is a dual radiator with two 120mm fans side by side, while the S36 has three fans side by side. The Kelvin series heatsink and radiators are made of copper, which should provide better performance and durability than aluminum. The prices of the T12, S24 and S36 are successively 75, 86 and 100 euros.
In addition to the Kelvin series, Fractal Design expanded its Core series enclosures at Computex earlier this week. The new Core X3 cases are the 1100, 1300, 2300 and 3300 and complement the previously released 1500, 2500 and 3500. The Core X3 housings are supposed to make Fractal Designs design accessible at a low price, while retaining quite a few features. The housings are in matx format in the Core 1100, 1300 and 1500, atx with the 2300 and 2500 and in the 3300 and 3500 even an eatx board fits. The housings are equipped with USB 3.0 connections, in the larger versions have a fan controller and offer sufficient space for cables.
The x300 enclosures have a closed drive bay with drives that must be screwed down the length of the enclosure. The x500 versions have a different drive cage, in which the drives are placed perpendicularly in the housing. The Core X3 3300 costs 60 euros, the X3 2300 45 euros and the smallest X3 1300 and 1100 cost 45 and 35 euros respectively.
