The Taiwanese Foxconn is considering investing 6.5 billion euros together with Apple in the construction of a factory for displays on American soil. The US factory should provide 30,000 to 50,000 jobs.

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou announced the plans in front of Nikkei Asia Review. According to Gou, producing screen panels in the US is a good solution, because America is the largest market for Apple products. The iPhone maker would like to contribute to the construction of the factory, but how much Apple wants to invest is not known.

According to Nikkei Asia Review, Foxconn also plans to set up an injection molding plant in the United States. That might happen in the state of Pennsylvania. Officials from that state were present at the presentation, where Gou made the statements. Parts of products are made in the factory.

Donald Trump, the new president of the United States, has repeatedly urged American manufacturers to move production to their own soil. To achieve this, Trump wants, among other things, to tax the import of products from China and Mexico high and to give companies in the US tax benefits. Gou argues that American protectionism is inevitable, but he also openly questions whether the American public will support it, because it will result in higher product prices.

The Taiwanese Foxconn is the manufacturer of Apple products such as the iPhone. Foxconn mainly produces in China. Even if there is an American screen factory, the production of iPhones and iPads will still largely take place in China. At the meeting, Gou also announced plans for new investments in Chinese factories.
