Fisker and Foxconn have reached a memorandum of understanding on the production of a new electric car, due for release by the end of 2023. The companies want to develop the car together and release it worldwide.

Details about the new car have not yet been announced. According to Henrik Fisker, founder of the car brand, the details will remain secret until 2023. The car should be available at the end of that year. Fisker claims that it is a ‘revolutionary’ model, but in what respect that is the case, he does not say.

According to a press release, Foxconn plans to produce more than 250,000 units annually and will be sold in markets including North America, Europe, China and India. Production is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Fisker and Foxconn have reached a memorandum of understanding on the car to be produced. This means that there is an agreement, but it is not a legal commitment. The companies say they are already doing preparatory work and will enter into a formal partnership in the second quarter of this year.

The companies call the collaboration Project Pear. That stands for personal electric automotive revolution. Foxconn is the world’s largest electronics manufacturer. The Taiwanese company has developed its own open platform for EVs, called MIH. It is not known whether that platform will be used for the new Fisker car.

Fisker is already working on an electric car. That is the Ocean, an electric SUV with solar panels on the roof, which should appear in the fourth quarter of 2022. That car is not made by Foxconn and the new collaboration does not change the plans for that model.
