Fortnite will eventually be released in China
The popular battle royale game Fortnite is released in China by Tencent. The Chinese company announced this at a conference. It is not yet known when the game will be released.
Tencent, which has a 40 percent stake in Fortnite developer Epic Games, is also investing 15 million dollars in the development of Fortnite’s esports arm. It will take care of the distribution and marketing of Fortnite in China, while the company will also be very careful that the game is not copied or distributed illegally.
According to China’s DoNews, Chinese players who pre-order the game will receive unique in-game items. In case players outside of China have already made progress with a Fortnite account, they can transfer this data to Chinese servers.
The partnership between developer Epic Games and Tencent in China is likely to result in significant growth in Fortnite’s player base, although it remains to be seen whether Fortnite will also become as popular in China after its major competitor PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Tencent is also the publisher of the regular and mobile version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which was previously released in China.
