Fortnite will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch
Fortnite will be available immediately upon release of the next generation of consoles. That has maker Epic Games announced. Fortnite now works on the current generation of consoles, on desktop and on mobile devices.
The game will be released immediately at the planned release of the consoles next fall, Epic says. The game was released a few years ago for the Xbox One and PS4 and has already been released for the Nintendo Switch. The PS5 and Xbox Series X should be released before the end of the year, although that release is not yet certain: the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak could still lead to a postponement.
The game will also receive an update after the release of the new Unreal Engine 5 to run on that engine, Epic says. That only happens after the release; when the new consoles come out, Fortnite will still run on the current Unreal Engine 4. The new engine will be released in a final version in the course of next year.
