Fortnite gets higher resolution on Nintendo Switch after update
Epic Games ups the resolution of Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch with an update. According to the developer, this can be done by making better use of the GPU. The resolution goes up in both handheld mode and dock mode.
The total number of pixels in handheld mode increases by 38 percent, reports Epic Games. The ‘expected resolution’ is 1170×660 pixels, which was 1000×560 before the update. As before, the game uses a dynamic resolution, which scales down when there’s a lot going on in the picture, to keep the frame rate constant.
In dock mode, the expected resolution goes to 1560×880 pixels, which was 1390×780 pixels. The increase in the number of pixels is therefore about 31 percent. According to Epic, the higher resolution does not lead to lower frame rates. Instead, the update should provide a more consistent frame rate, resulting in a smoother experience. The game runs on the Switch at 30fps. The update also brings a space saving of 140MB.
