Former Mt. Gox users say they are receiving refunds
Some former Mt. Gox users on Reddit claim to have received a refund. According to the curator, the crypto exchange that was declared bankrupt in 2014 started repaying creditors a few weeks ago.
The Reddit users have in the subreddit MtGox Insolvency Discussion Sub indicated that they would like a payment from Mt. Gox have received. It is not clear how many users are involved, but so far there appear to be several dozen victims. Mt. Gox also appears to handle the refund via PayPal.
Some users report that they have only received a small portion of their outstanding money back and are still missing a chunk. Other users report receiving a double payment from Mt. Gox have received.
Crypto platform Mt. Gox filed for bankruptcy in 2014. At least 650,000 bitcoins were lost. At the time they had a value of approximately 1000 euros each. The curator managed to recover approximately 200,000 coins. Since the bankruptcy, creditors have been given the option to opt for a recovery plan that would allow them to regain part of the value of their bitcoins on the platform. It was also possible to choose to wait for the lawsuits, after which the payout could be slightly higher. Curator Nobuaki Kobayashi arrived in November this year according to Reddit users stating that creditors who have enrolled in the rehabilitation process can expect repayments.
