Former GameTrailers employees continue as Easy Allies thanks to crowdfunding

Some of the employees of GameTrailers, which were discontinued earlier this year, have announced that they will continue under the name Easy Allies. To fund this through crowdfunding, they’ve started a Patreon page, where users can pledge money to the initiative.

The goal of Easy Allies employees is to continue doing what they had to stop when work on the old game video website ended. On Patreon, the nine employees, including GameTrailers’ founder Brandon Jones, have been pledged more than $6,500 a month at the time of writing. Through Patreon it is possible as a user to donate an amount per month, with certain considerations based on the amount.

The idea behind Easy Allies is to be able to work with as many people as possible. The group will also be releasing a weekly podcast and streaming every day on the Twitch.tv channel. To continue with reviews of games, the group says it needs a total amount of $15,000 per month. More similar initiatives are funded through Patreon. For example, Jimquisition, also a game publication, has been dependent on the income obtained through the website since the separation from The Escapist.

With the promised money, Jones and the others want to get back to the old level of GameTrailers. In February, they suddenly had to shut down the website after 13 years of publishing videos with information about games. Presumably, the decision to shut down the website was made by Defy Media, which took over the site in 2014 and had previously made layoffs.
