Former Civilization games designer is working on new strategy game
Starbreeze announces that it will release a new strategy game from developer Mohawk Games. Soren Johnson, founder of Mohawk, was instrumental in the development of Civilization III and IV.
In a blog post, Starbreeze announces that the game has the working title 10 Crowns. The game aims to become an ‘epic turn-based strategy game’ that will allow players to build ‘the greatest dynasty in history’. 10 Crowns is to be a 4X strategy game, which stands for explore, expand, exploit and exterminate. At the same time, Starbreeze promises that innovations to the genre will be introduced in the game.
Soren Johnson was chief designer and the AI programmer for Civilization III and IV. He worked for Civ developer Firaxis from 2000 to 2007. Also on the Mohawk team is Dorian Newcomb, the art director of Civilization V. Mohawk Games has released one title to date: Offworld Trading Company, a similar sci-fi themed game. 10 Crowns is currently still in the earliest stages of development. Starbreeze has released some concept art images.
