Former CEO Kaz Hirai is leaving Sony. He was part of the board of directors in the past year, but has decided to resign from that position as well. He worked for the Japanese company for almost 35 years before his departure in June.

At the request of current director Kenishido Yoshida, Hirai will remain available for advice, but will no longer be in an official position, Sony said. Hirai handed over the reins to Yoshida in April last year, after serving as president of the company for six years.

Hirai says his job on the board of directors is over. “I had the opportunity to facilitate a smooth transition and to support Sony’s management. I am convinced that everyone is aligned under Yoshida’s leadership and that is why I have decided to leave Sony, which has been in business for 35 years. been part of my life.” Prior to becoming CEO, Hirai worked in Sony’s gaming division, among other things.
