The Chinese smartphone brand Honor has presented its first foldable smartphone. The Honor Magic V has a design that is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold models and comes in China for the equivalent of 1389 euros.

The folding screen of the Honor Magic V has a diagonal of 7.9 “in the unfolded position, with an almost square aspect ratio of 10:9. It is an OLED screen with a resolution of 2272×1984 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. The outside of the device has a 6.45” screen with a 21:9 ratio, a refresh rate of 120Hz and a resolution of 2560×1080 pixels. There is a hole in each screen of the device with the selfie camera.

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, the Honor Magic V has a slightly larger screen on the inside and a slightly wider screen on the outside. When folded, the Honor Magic V is 72.7mm wide and 14.3mm thick. Unfolded, the device is 141.1mm wide and 6.7mm thick. According to the manufacturer, the hinge has been tested to withstand 200,000 folds. On the back are three 50-megapixel cameras. In addition to the primary camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera, this is a so-called Spectrum Enhanced camera. It is not yet clear what exactly it does.

The phone runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 soc from Qualcomm, has 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of flash storage. The 4750mAh battery supports fast charging with 66W. That should yield a half-full battery in fifteen minutes. The device is equipped with Android 12 with the Magic UI 6.0 shell from Honor. According to the manufacturer, this makes it possible to display multiple apps on the screen at the same time.

Honor is a former brand of Huawei. At the end of 2020, the brand was sold to a Chinese consortium. This allowed the brand to buy parts for smartphones again, something that Huawei was made difficult by the trade restrictions introduced by the United States.

The device will be available in China from January 18 for a price of 9999 yuan. That is converted about 1389 euros. It is not yet known whether the device will come to Europe. Honor has been releasing smartphones in Europe since the end of last year.
