The Flemish government has approved the vision paper Clean Power for Transport 2030. This memorandum is about the further placement of charging stations and fast charging points. The memorandum aims to achieve the European target of one public charging station for every ten electric cars.

According to the Flemish Minister of Mobility Lydia Peeters, the government wants to use the vision paper to make transport in Flanders greener and to expand the charging infrastructure. Part of this plan is that, for example, road signs should be installed along highways and regional roads that provide road users with information about charging points. Peeters also mentions the concrete objective of 35,000 publicly accessible charging points. According to Statistics Flanders, Flanders still has 4,262 publicly accessible charging points. Of these, 111 are fast charging points.

Peeters wants to achieve this goal by accelerating the development of public, semi-public and private charging points. For example, the minister wants to see more public and semi-public charging points on private land. The ministry will start a call for projects for this in May, for which at least three million euros will be allocated.

The procedure for installing public charging stations must also be shorter, the minister writes. Peeters wants to achieve this by mapping potential locations for the charging stations in advance with ‘potential maps’. The minister wants to show a first version this summer. In addition, there must be a ‘system of concessions and framework contracts per region’ in order to be able to roll out the network of ‘slow’ chargers more quickly. Together with the potential maps, charging islands should be built in city centers in this way.

on Twitter writes Peeters that by 2025 every highway and carpool parking space must have an ‘ultra-fast’ charging point and there must be a charging point every 25 kilometers ‘along the major traffic axes’. Ultimately, the bill must ensure a 23 percent reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.
