Flash will still work in Internet Explorer after 2020 for business users
Microsoft will continue to offer Flash in its browsers after 2020, despite the fact that this must definitely be the last year of the software’s life. The company offers this for business customers who also have to count on it after 2020. However, it seems that anyone can take advantage of that.
In the announcement, Microsoft says it is meeting that group of business customers by making it possible to load Flash as a plug-in in Edge’s Internet Explorer mode. It is therefore also possible to load Flash in Internet Explorer itself. However, Microsoft does not expressly state that this functionality will be limited to Edge and IE installations on Windows 10 Enterprise or Pro. Everyone may therefore still be able to use Flash. How long is not known.
Flash’s eol date was announced three years ago. Adobe did that in collaboration with Apple, Mozilla, Microsoft, Facebook and Google. Browser makers have already phased out support for Flash in recent years, disabling support for the plug-in by default. Security updates for Flash Player will continue to be released until the end of this year, but this will not happen at all from next year. Adobe will remove the software from its websites and will send users messages to Flash Player to remove software.
