Why does Meta want to take over Giphy?
Facebook, as the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp was then called, announced two years ago that it wanted to take over Giphy. The GIF platform would then fall within the Instagram team. With the acquisition, Meta aims to further integrate Giphy’s gif library into Instagram and other Meta services, “so people can find the right way to express themselves.”
