Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 will receive support for Google Assistant in the US
Fitbit is adding Google Assistant as a voice assistant on the Sense and Versa 3 smartwatches. The wearables will also receive new features to measure oxygen levels and to improve other voice assistants.
The changes are in Fitbit OS 5.1 for the FitBit Sense and the Versa 3 . With this new version of the operating system it is possible to set Google Assistant as a voice assistant on the smartwatch. For the time being, this only applies to American users. Later this year, the feature will also come to some other English-speaking countries.
The Sense and Versa 3 currently already support Amazon’s Alexa as a voice assistant. Users can choose what they want to use after the update. They can only choose one of those two assistants. Users can call up the function via voice command, but also with the physical button on the smartwatch. In the first half of next year, a function will also be released with which Assistant and Alexa can also talk back to the user.
In Fitbit OS 5.1, the company is also adding new features to the oxygen meter. For example, users can continue to use it at night and see their values in a new dashboard in the Fitbit app, instead of only having to view it as a watch face . It will also be possible to make calls via Bluetooth directly from the device via the speakers and the microphone in the smartwatch. Until recently, users could only use the wearable to record or hide conversations. Users can also use text-to-speech to detect text messages in Android.
