Fitbit Charge 4 wearable with GPS will be released in mid-April for 150 euros
Fitbit has unveiled the Fitbit Charge 4. Compared to its predecessor, the fitness tracker has built-in GPS, Spotify control and functions that were previously only in the Fitbit smartwatches, such as smart wake. Active Zone Minutes is a new addition.
With Active Zone Minutes, the Charge 4 registers what kind of exercise is being done, using the heart rate. These exercises are divided into the zones fat burn zone, cardio zone and peak zone. With this, Fitbit says it can determine whether the user has had his daily or weekly recommended amount of exercise.
Thanks to the addition of a GPS sensor in the wearable itself, users no longer have to take their smartphone with them when they exercise outside the house and want to track their route. The GPS measurements can also be used to draw up a map on which speed or heart rate can be shown per leg of, for example, a running course.
Smart wake is not yet available with the release of the Charge 4, but will be added later. The function means that the user is awakened with vibrations, at a time around the set alarm when the user is sleeping the least deeply. The same sensors are used to measure the quality of sleep.
Furthermore, the Charge 4 has the same functions of the Charge 3: the weather, the clock, a stopwatch, a constant heart rate sensor, automatic recognition of different sports activities, although this time there are at least five more and water resistance up to 50 meters.
As for the design, the band width is the same as the Charge 3, so older bands can be carried along. The display is 35.8mm by 22.7mm, with a diagonal of 39.83mm. The aspect ratio is therefore 14.19:9. The Charge 4 is available from 15 April from 149.95 euros. The tracker itself is available in black and rosewood, the strap in black, rosewood and storm blue. A special edition with an extra strap made of gray, woven textile, costs 169.95.
The intended acquisition of Fitbit by Google, for $ 2.1 billion, has not yet been completed.
