A modder has published a browser version of the original Tomb Raider. Part of the game from 1996 is playable via the browser. The browser game can be played from a first-person or third-person perspective.

The OpenLara project is an open source project with a custom engine. Mud started the project in 2016. The created version is compiled via Emscripten and supports WebGL, making it playable in web browsers.

The modder XProger has not included the entire contents of the original in the web browser version; only level two with the City of Vilcabamba is currently playable, including the well-known tunnel systems, wolves and bears.

The original Tomb Raider didn’t go beyond 30fps. Much higher frame rates can be achieved with the web browser. The game can also be played on smartphones via the web browser, where special touch controls are available.
