First smartphone with support for Google’s VR platform will be released in two weeks
The first smartphone with support for Google’s VR platform Daydream, the ZTE Axon 7, will be released in two weeks. The manufacturer has announced this. The device has a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.
An amoled screen is a requirement for Daydream compatible phones. Daydream is a VR platform that Google presented this spring. A phone needs more than an OLED screen. Google also prescribes accurate sensors and a solid processor to display the images with sufficient frames per second. In addition to Google itself, Samsung and HTC also come with Daydream phones.
In any case, the ZTE Axon 7 will be compatible with the system when Google releases Daydream this fall. The Axon 7 will initially be released in the United States in two weeks, but ZTE has previously mentioned a price in euros for the phone. The device, which costs 400 dollars in the US, will sell for 449 euros in Europe. The Android 6.0 smartphone has a variant that is compatible with all 4G frequencies used in the Benelux.
In addition to the 5.5 “amoled screen, the Axon 7 has a Snapdragon 820-soc from Qualcomm and variants with 4GB and 6GB of RAM. In addition to Daydream, ZTE focuses the device mainly on audio enthusiasts, with two Dolby Atmos speakers on the front and an AK4490 -dac from AKM for processing audio.
Furthermore, the device contains a 20MP camera with optical image stabilization for taking photos and an 8MP front camera. When the phone will be released in Europe is still unknown.
