First public beta Android 9 for OnePlus 3 and 3T is available
The first open beta of OxygenOS based on Android 9.0 Pie for the OnePlus 3 and 3T has appeared online. The release was already coming, since an open beta for the Chinese variant of OnePlus’ OS came online two weeks ago.
Initially, these two devices, both from 2016, would not receive an upgrade to Android P. However, OnePlus announced last year that the company came back to this and went ahead with it. First it was the turn of more recent devices from OnePlus, but now, after some extra delay, the first public version of Android 9 is available for these two devices. They are the oldest OnePlus devices that will receive the upgrade to version 9.
Users must manually download and install this beta of OxygenOS. This does not necessarily have to be done via the recovery, but can also be done by referring the updater in the system to the downloaded zip file. Later, when the release version is ready, they can easily upgrade via an ota update.
The Pie upgrade comes with a redesigned interface, a new do not disturb mode, security fixes through April 2019, gaming mode 3.0, Google Lens integration, and more. The update is 1.6 GB in size.
