First image of Ring dashcam appears online
First images of a Ring Car Cam have appeared. This dashcam would have the digital assistant Alexa integrated and thus be able to start recordings when users say they have been stopped.
The Tape Drive shared the image of the Ring Car Cam on its website. Amazon subsidiary Ring already announced its Car Cam in September 2020, although the company did not yet show images of this dashcam. A Ring support page, which was recently put online according to Zatz Not Funny, reports that the Car Cam can be attached to the dashboard or windshield of a car. Users can connect the dashcam to their car’s OBD2 connector, also known as EOBD in Europe.
The support page also states that the Ring Car Cam can store video recordings locally. Those images can then be viewed via WiFi and the Ring app. Some functions of the dashcam do require a separate subscription, which gives the dashcam access to a 4G connection. With that subscription, the Car Cam would, for example, receive emergency crash assist, with which users can quickly request help from emergency services after a collision. The dashcam also gets support for Alexa and therefore has some extra features, including ‘Traffic stop’. For example, users can say “Alexa, I’m being kicked out.” With that, the dashcam starts recording video images.
The camera should cost $200, Ring reported in its September announcement. It is not yet clear when the Ring Car Cam will hit the market, although the company previously stated that the dashcam should be released this year.
