Hardware manufacturer Sapphire has expanded its range of video cards with a Radeon HD 4850 X2. The card is equipped with two RV770 GPUs, supplemented with 1GB GDDR3 memory.

The cards have not yet been officially released, even though Sapphire originally announced them for September. The video card did spotted and photographed. Sapphire uses two fans for its design, each of which should keep an RV770 GPU cool. The coolers take up two slots and seem to be made of aluminum cooling fins and a copper cooling block. ATI is calling out the gddr3-equipped 4850 X2 cards website in the same breath with the 4870 X2 video cards, which are equipped with gddr5 memory.

The cards are equipped with two RV770 GPUs baked at 55nm, which together have 1600 stream processors. The graphics processors are connected to the 2GB gddr3 memory via the 256-bit memory bus. It is not yet known what clock speeds the components of Sapphire have been given. The photos do show that the cards are powered by two extra PCIe connectors: a six-pin and an eight-pin one. The 4850 X2 will probably be available next month, while the gddr5 memory equipped 4870 X2 are already available.
