First batch of controversial Tor router had no password protection
The first batch of the delivered Tor routers Anonabox turned out to have a very basic flaw in security. Users were unable to password protect the Wi-Fi, which allowed anyone who could receive the Wi-Fi network to access it.
In addition, there was a security hole that allowed any user to take over the device and eavesdrop on things like passwords, Wired writes. Because the errors cannot be fixed with an update, Anonabox sends all customers a new box.
The Anonabox is a router that sends all traffic via the anonymization network Tor. It started as a crowdfunding project, but Kickstarter stopped the project. It came back on Indiegogo and this time succeeded and hit the target, after which the rendition has started this year.
It is unknown how it is possible that the errors were still in the Anonabox at release. Anonabox is now a product of Sochule Incorporate after an acquisition.
