First Activision games will come to Game Pass from 2024 if the takeover goes through
Activision Blizzard wants to add its first games to Xbox Game Pass from next year. The company will do this if the intended acquisition by Microsoft goes ahead. According to rumors, that acquisition will be completed at the end of this week.
Activision Blizzard confirms its Game Pass plans on social media. The company says it will not bring its most recent games to Game Pass this year. “While we have no plans to bring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III or Diablo IV to Game Pass this year, once the deal is finalized we expect to work with Xbox to bring our titles to more players around the world” , the studio writes. “We expect to start adding games to Game Pass over the course of next year.”
There is no mention of which games will come to Game Pass first. However, Call of Duty is not expected to come to Game Pass before 2025. That was suggested in documents of the British CMA and said by Xbox Vice President Sarah during the lawsuit between Microsoft and the US FTC, also writes IGN.
Microsoft announced in 2021 that it wanted to acquire game maker Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. The deal met with resistance from market regulators, but is now only awaiting approval from the British CMA. That supervisor recently gave preliminary approval and a final agreement is expected to follow this week. The American FTC still has its own case against the takeover. That case is not expected to be finalized until after the deal is completed. According to sources from The Verge Microsoft wants to complete the acquisition on Friday, October 13.
