Firmware upgrade brings new functionality to Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera
Olympus has released new firmware for the OM-D E-M1 camera. With the new firmware, the device gets several new functions, including support for tethered shooting. Two new filters have also been added.
In addition to tethered shooting, firmware version 2.0 also brings the Digital Shift and Live Composite functions to the camera. Digital Shift allows correction of trapezoidal distortion directly on Live View, while Live Composite allows tracking of light from stars, traffic and fireworks, for example. In addition, the update brings two new filters and the viewfinder lag has been reduced from 29ms to 16ms.
The firmware will be available for download from September 16, and Olympus will deliver a new silver version of the OM-D E-M1 with the new software in early October as standard. The body of that model costs 1299 euros and with M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm 1:2.8 Pro lens, the price is 1999 euros. The manufacturer also comes with a 40-150 mm variant of that lens, for 1399 euros. In addition to that lens, Olympus also comes with the M.Zuiko Digital 1.4x teleconverter, which will be released at the beginning of November for a price of 349 euros. Finally, the company is coming with a black variant of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm 1:2.0 lens for micro-four-thirds cameras. It will be released at the end of September for 799 euros.
