Synology released the first beta release of version 2.1 of its Disk Station Manager at the beginning of this month, and about a week and a half ago, a new stable version of the 2.0 series has been released that has build number 731 for some models, 732 for others. SDM is the management software. which runs on the company’s various NAS products. The Disk, Cube and Rack drives offer more than just extra storage space. They can also make backups of all clients on the network and download files via http, ftp or bittorrent, so that, for example, the PC can be turned off at night while the download is still coming in. In addition, the built-in iTunes server can stream audio and video files over the network, host a dynamic website using PHP and MySQL, and act as a print server.
