Spread the love

While Synology is still working hard on version 6.0, the manufacturer has released an update to build 5644 of Disk Station Manager 5.2. Synology DSM is the management software that runs on several of the company’s NAS products. Synology’s systems offer more than just extra storage space. For example, backups of all clients on the network can be made and files can be downloaded via http, ftp, bittorrent, usenet and emule, so that, for example, energy-hungry PCs can switch off at night while the download just comes in. Furthermore, audio and video files can be streamed over the network via the built-in iTunes server, a dynamic website can be hosted using PHP and MySQL and the device can act as a print server.

To be able to install version 5.2, at least version 5.0 must be present. Furthermore, it is only suitable for the nas models that end in 10 or higher. For the other conditions and the different downloads, look at this page. In version 5.2 we find support for smb3 File Station can now also address various online storage services and in particular the backup functionality, Cloud Station and Photo Station have been greatly improved. Furthermore, the ‘heavier’ NAS can now use Docker. In this update, for which the NAS will have to be restarted, the following improvements have been made:

Fixed Issues

  • To enhance the security level, administrator accounts with blank passwords will no longer be allowed and will be disabled after this update.
  • Improved general stability when numerous application privilege rules are applied to individual users/groups.
