Download Firmware Sony PlayStation 3 3.61

Sony has released new firmware for the PlayStation 3. The firmware has been given jersey number 3.61 and is 176MB in size. You can download it from the menu of the console itself or from the Sony website. The firmware was released in response to the PSN intrusion at the end of March. After the update is installed, you will be prompted to change the password during the first login. Whether the update also includes other security improvements has not been disclosed.

The main features in version 3.61 of the system software

It has now been officially disclosed that unauthorized persons have been granted access to PlayStation Network, so a process has been added as a security measure that requires all PlayStation Network account holders to change their passwords.

Remark:

• If you change your password, an email may be sent to the email address registered with PlayStation Network (your login ID). If you are unable to receive messages to the registered email address, you will not be able to change your password.
• If you are unable to receive messages to the email address you registered as your login ID, you will need to create another email address where you can receive messages and contact en.playstation.com/contact before changing your password.
• Depending on your country/region of residence and the network you use, it may take some time after updating the PS3 system software before you can change your PlayStation Network account password and use the PlayStation Network services.
• In a few days, it will be possible to change PlayStation Network account passwords and use PlayStation Network services (excluding PlayStation Store) in all regions.
• Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play the content until you install the new PS3 system software.
• Do not update with data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on a disc. Do not update in any way other than as described in the product documentation or on this website. If an update is performed with data from another source, by any other means, or with a PS3 system that has been altered or edited in any way, the PS3 system may not function properly and the official update data may not be able to be installed. These actions may void the warranty of the PS3 system and affect your ability to use Sony Computer Entertainment’s warranty and repair services.
