A new stable release of Rockbox was released on Monday with version number 3.2. Rockbox is an open source alternative to the firmware of many portable music players, including several models from Apple, Archos, Cowon and iriver. The firmware adds additional functionality such as support for multiple formats and the ability to delete or rename files from the player. Below are the main changes that have been made to the Meuktracker since the previous entry:

Major changes in version 3.2

  • The m:robe 500 has sound through the Rockbox PCM interface.
  • Faster text/graphics rendering on color targets and in the greyscale library, speeding up list scrolling noticeably on ipod Video.
  • PictureFlow supports all targets except Archos Player, and can function during playback on all non-Archos targets.
  • Add LCD sleep/wakeup for iPod Video (5G, 5.5G) which allows significant increase of battery runtime.
  • Newgame, Goban plugin.
  • Battery charging on Sansa e200v1/c200v1.
  • PictureFlow resizes cover art on load, and supports greyscale targets.
  • Preliminary support for iPod accessories.
  • Archos flash packages: Optimized UCL decompressor in the bootloader for faster boot.

  • Album art resizing.
  • FM radio support on Gigabeat S.
  • Software controlled backlight fading for targets without hardware fading (e200v1, c200v1, X5, Cowon D2 and H300)
  • Customizable options in the QuickScreen
  • Calendar plugin on all RTC equipped targets
  • Configurable mono recording mode
  • Support for version 1.1 scrobbler log files
  • APE playback optimized
  • MP3 playback optimized for dual-core targets

  • apple: 1st through 5.5th generation iPod, iPod Mini and 1st generation iPod Nano (not the Shuffle, 2nd/3rd gen Nano, Classic or Touch)
  • Archos: Jukebox 5000, 6000, Studio, Recorder, FM Recorder, Recorder V2 and Ondio
  • cowon: iAudio X5, X5V, X5L, M5, and M5L
  • iRiver: H100, H300 and H10 series
  • Olympus: M: Robe 100
  • SanDisk: Sansa c200, e200 and e200R series (not the v2 models/AMS models)
  • Toshiba: Gigabeat X and F series (not the S series)
