Netgear has released ReadyNAS version 6.4.2. This software runs on Netgear’s various NAS devices, such as the ARM processor equipped RN102, RN104, RN202, RN204, RN212, RN214 and RN2120, and the x86 processor equipped RN312, RN314, RN316, RN516, RN716x, RN3130, RN3138, RN3220 and RN4220. Below are the changes and improvements Netgear has made with this release:

Enhancements & Bug Fixes:

  • Security updates for Samba, OpenSSL, and Linux kernel. (including CVE-2016-0728)
  • Fixed erroneous disk LED blinking on RN3220 and RN4220.
  • Fixed backup job timestamp comparison error that caused incremental backup jobs to back up too much data.
  • Fixed that a backup job error report was issued when encountering junctions on remote SMB filesystems, even though there was no error.
  • Fixed that the wrong page opened after clicking on the NAS UPnP icon in some builds of Windows 10.
  • No longer sends invalid quota alerts for USB drives.
  • Now recognizes BTRFS filesystems in USB drives.
  • Fixed a potential hang on RN104 systems due to a race condition when using the CPU’s RAID5 offload engine.
  • Fixed that rsync backup jobs failed when the destination system used a version of rsync older than the one on the ReadyNAS.
  • Fixed that on RN102, RN104, and RN2120 systems there was an immediate reboot instead of a proper shutdown when WoL and jumbo frames were configured.
  • Fixed a network performance problem on RN102, RN104, and RN2120 systems that were configured with jumbo frames and were not connected to the network until after booting.
  • Fixed a problem with RN102, RN104, and RN2120 system automatic power on behavior. After a power loss when the last system state was powered on, the system did not power on.
  • Fixed the failure of SMB to access home shares on accounts that were created before a hostname change.
  • Improved RN2120’s stability with large transfers.
  • Disabled OpenSSH client roaming. (CVE-2016-0777, CVE-2016-0778)
  • Fixed an issue where deleting the default volume on firmware versions older than 6.4.0 could cause SMB authentication failures.
  • Fixed an issue where the boot device could become corrupted after a firmware update causing the NAS to be unable to boot on the Intel Desktop units (mount_block_root)
