Eminent released a new beta firmware for the EM7080 hdMEDIA RT media player a few days ago. On the GoT, experiences and opinions about this device can be shared in this topic. To install the firmware, a button on the bottom of the player has to be pressed. This release is built around a new SDK and includes support for header compression in mkv files and improved HDMI compatibility with other devices.

Firmware release: 1.0.5.31 *beta*

To install the firmware:

  • Extract the firmware.
  • Copy install.img to your USB stick, and insert the USB stick into the top USB port.
  • Turn off the media player and press and hold the button on the bottom of the media player and turn on the media player. Press and hold the button at the bottom until the media player shows an upgrade screen.
  • BT, SMB and NZB are integrated in the firmware, no need to install packages. (see also the release notes, how to enable this feature!!)
  • Note: The button at the bottom is present on the circuit board and can be reached by turning the media player over. The button is visible at the top left of the cooling grid.
