Download Firmware Canon EOS 5D Mark II 2.0.3
Canon has released a new firmware for its EOS 5D Mark II. With version 2.0.3, users get more control over video and audio settings. Some features of the new firmware were already available through hacked firmware.
Particularly striking are the new frame rates from which users can choose. Where previously only videos with 30 fps could be recorded, you can now also choose 25 fps and 23,976 fps. The latter frame rate is also known as 24p and most closely matches the image characteristics of traditional film. The existing frame rate of 30 fps has been adjusted to the NTSC frame rate of 29.97 fps.
In addition to the new frame rates, there is also the option to display a histogram to make manual exposure easier. A similar option was previously available through the Magic Lantern hack in the form of a zebra stripes pattern. Canon has also made innovations in the audio field. The sample rate has been adjusted from 44.1KHz to 48KHz and the user can now control the volume.
With this firmware the feature set of the 5D Mark II is largely aligned with the 7D. This already had support for the aforementioned frame rates when it was introduced last summer.
