AVM has released new firmware for its AVM Fritz!box Fon Wlan 7490. The 7490 is an adsl 2 modem, gigabit router, access point up to 802.11ac and dect base station for up to six handsets in one. The device also has two USB 3.0 connections, with which a printer or external storage capacity can be shared on the network. You can always revert to the original firmware, so make sure you have a backup. Updating the firmware can be done from the user interface yourself, but you can also download it separately. The new firmware includes Fritz!OS 6.83 and brings the following improvements.

• FRITZ!Fon: new start screens und a night service
• Additional security and network adjustments

telephone:

• Improved – changes for the telephony service of Deutsche Telekom
• Fixed – setting up login credentials for a separate logical connection for voice
• Changed – setting up IP-phones requires at least 8 characters for the username
• Changed – connecting IP-phones over the internet is deactivated after installing the update *

wireless LAN:

• Fixed – performance issue when using DSL connections with DHCP

System:

• Improved – changed text in the dialog for addition authentication
