Apple has released version 17.4 of iOS. In iOS 17, which is suitable for the iPhone Xs/Xr and later, it is possible to create a personal calling screen. The person you call will see this. There is also a standby mode, where the phone functions as a smart display when charging. AirDrop, the messaging app and autocorrect have also been improved. This update brings new options for app marketplaces, web browsers, and payments for European Union residents. This version also includes new emojis and transcripts in Podcasts, as well as other features, bug fixes, and security updates for your iPhone.

Apps in the EU

European Union residents now have the following new options:

• Install apps from alternative app marketplaces
• Install web browser with alternative browser engines
• Manage the default web browser when you first open Safari
• Manage the app used by default for contactless payments
• Use alternative payment options for apps in the App Store with the external purchase badge

Emojis

• New emojis including mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain and shaking face are available on the emoji keyboard
• 18 emojis of people and bodies now in both directions

Apple Podcasts

• Transcripts allow you to follow an episode with text highlighted and aligned with the audio in English, Spanish, French, and German
• The text in an episode can be read in its entirety, searched for a word or phrase, tap to play from a specific point, and use accessibility features like Text Size, Increase Contrast' and 'VoiceOver'

This update contains the following improvements and bug fixes:

• Music recognition lets you add found songs to your Apple Music playlists and library and to Apple Music Classical
• Siri has a new option to announce messages you receive in a supported language
• Stolen Device Protection now includes an option for increased security in all locations
• Battery health in Settings shows battery cycle count, date of manufacture and first use on all iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models
• Fixed an issue where contact images were appearing blank in Find My
• Fixed an issue for dual SIM users where their phone number changed from primary to secondary, which was visible to the group they messaged
