Firefox will show warnings when logging in non-https sites
Mozilla is coming ‘soon’ with an update to Firefox that will make the browser show warnings when a user tries to log in to a site that does not support https. The browser then indicates that logins may be ‘compromised’.
The alert shows a lock with a red line through it, accompanied by a message that the connection is not secure. “Logins entered here may be compromised,” reads the text. The update of the browser will follow ‘soon’, reports Ryan Feely, ux designer at Mozilla.
Browsers already warn whether sites offer secure connections to tls, by means of the padlock in the address bar. Google, in particular, is becoming stricter about supporting https with Chrome. For sites that do not do this, Chrome from version 56 shows a warning when logging in to http sites, while the browser ‘rewards’ https sites with a green lock. Ultimately, the Chrome team wants to display such a warning on every http site.
