Firefox will end support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 after September 2024
Firefox will stop supporting Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 and macOS versions 10.12, 10.13 and 10.14 after Extended Support Release version 115. Firefox 115 will be available in July and will then be supported with security updates for another fifteen months.
Starting with the release of version 115 sometime next month, users will be moved to the Extended Support Release channel, the Mozilla Foundation said. This version will be supported with security updates there until September 2024. However, regular feature updates will no longer be available for the operating systems after next month.
Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 last January and the macOS versions have also not had any updates for quite some time. According to Firefox, maintaining browsers on outdated operating systems is very costly and unsafe for users. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, among others, have long stopped supporting Windows operating systems.
