Firefox for iOS comes out

Browser Firefox has been released for iOS. Mozilla had previously released a preview version. The browser builder had announced some time ago that the iOS version of the browser was coming. The Android version has been around for years.

Firefox for iOS appeared in the App Store on Thursday, although Mozilla itself has not yet publicized it. The browser is 29.4MB in size and requires iOS 8.2 or newer. The browser works on iPhones, iPads and the iPod touch.

Firefox for iOS differs from Safari by using Firefox Sync to sync history and favorites across devices. The iOS version also includes the ‘visual tabs’ option, which provides an overview of the various open tabs.

It’s not Mozilla’s first iOS app. Mozilla previously brought Firefox Home to iOS for syncing browser content, but the organization discontinued that app in September last year.

Although Firefox cannot use its own render engine within iOS due to restrictions on Apple’s part, the development team hopes to bring the full Firefox user experience to the operating system. For those interested, the code of Firefox iOS has also been on Github for some time.
