Mozilla will offer support for the Opus audio format in Firefox 15. According to the browser builder, the format is better than existing lossy codecs currently used on the web. Firefox 15 also gets better memory management.

Users running the recently released beta of the Firefox 15 browser can already play audio in the Opus format. According to Mozilla, Opus offers, among other things, better compression than formats such as mp3 or aac. In addition, Opus is easy to adjust in terms of bitrate and bandwidth used.

firefox 15 must also better with the available RAM. The new version of the browser limits memory leaks caused by add-ons. It is not necessary to release new versions of add-ons for the improvements. Tests would have shown that most memory leaks can be fixed via a previously developed patch. How much RAM can be saved with this depends on the user, according to the browser builder.

Mozilla previously announced that it plans to release Firefox 15 on August 26. Version 14 of the browser was launched on June 26.
