Firaxis will stop supporting Multiplayer Mode and Challenge Mode in the Steam version of XCOM 2. Both modes can be played until March 28. After that, Firaxis removes them from the game permanently.

The decision to remove the modes was a difficult one, the developer reports on XCOM’s Twitter page† “At the same time, it also allows us to redeploy our resources elsewhere.” It is not clear exactly what resources are involved and where they are used. The modes will remain available in the Mac, Linux, and console versions of the game.

Since the release of XCOM 2 in 2016, the game has a multiplayer mode. It allows two players to compete against each other on randomly generated maps. They can fight with squads that consist of a mix of humans and aliens. The Challenge mode came with the War of the Chosen expansion in 2017. In the mode, players compete with each other to get the highest possible scores in special missions.
