Firaxis Adds DirectX 12 Support to Civilization VI
Developer Firaxis has released its Fall 2016 Update for Civilization VI. The update adds some new playing fields and also brings DirectX 12 support to the game. AMD has released a new driver with DX12 optimizations for the game.
The Fall Expansion adds a new scenario to the game titled ‘Cavalry and Cannonades’. New playing fields have also been added: Four-Leaf Clover and Six-Armed Snowflake. The levels can be played online and offline and are designed to encourage more combat by forcing players to move toward the center.
Support for DirectX 12 is initially available for AMD video cards and Nvidia GPUs of the Maxwell generation or newer. Firaxis advises gamers to update their drivers and AMD also released a new driver on Friday that should ensure proper support for DX12 in the game.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI players will receive the update upon launching the Steam client, the developer said in the announcement. Even before the game’s release, the developer and AMD announced that the game would get DX12 support. When the game came out on October 21, that support wasn’t there yet.
