Finland claims to be the first country in the world to publish a series of its own emojis. The series includes emoticons of a headbanger, a sauna and the Nokia 3310. The emoji of the phone is meant to indicate that something is unbreakable.

From December 1, a collection of more than thirty Finnish emojis will be released. Every day a new picture is presented in a Christmas calendar with 24 boxes. The calendar will be visible on a website, but apps will also appear. “We haven’t been serious about creating these emojis. Hopefully they will reveal not only our strangeness, but also our strengths,” the ministry said.

The emojis are an initiative of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote the country. The icons should express Finnish emotions. As a taster, the three emojis Sauna, Headbanger and Unbreakable can be viewed.

Furthermore, the emoji collection will be expanded with Finnish celebrities and ‘other important things’ associated with the country. Art director Bruno Leo Ribeiro is responsible for the graphic design. He also created a collection of emojis from famous artists.
